Integrating Technology Into Reading Classes

Only a few years ago, a study determined that in the United States alone, 32 million adults were not able to read, and a staggering 21% of adults could only read up to about a fifth-grade level. There can be no doubt that reading is an essential part of learning how to get along in society and being a productive member of your community. How do you get a job if you can’t read? How can you sign a legal document?

As unimaginable as it is for many of today’s teachers to think about this level of illiteracy, it is just that shocking to technology savvy kids today that their school’s instructional staff may actually be considered computer and technology illiterate. It is our goal, here at Educate LLC, to turn to that kind of illiteracy on its ear. Your school’s faculty and leaders must be tech savvy if they are to keep up with the world in which they teach and live. We can help.

Integrating Technology Into Reading Classes

Educate LLC knows that, no matter how rewarding it may be, teaching is no easy feat. And if you are not familiar with how technology can make your job easier, you just end up confused and maybe a little frightened by the prospect. By gradually working technology into your reading lessons we can ensure that the transition to tech-filled reading classes is smooth and as effortless as possible. Here are some classroom examples of how technology is being used in reading classes:

  • That’s a Fact Jack – This entails a game, a list of books, and questions about those books.

  • Timeliner – Here, students can create sequencing charts, timelines, and more.

  • Island Reading Journey – Similar to That’s a Fact Jack, students are required to perform basic tasks all related to the list of books contained within (i.e. questions, crossword puzzles, and other activities).

  • Kidspiration – This is full of brainstorming activities, story webs, and other easy to use software.

How Educate LLC Can Help

It will come as no surprise that we support, 100%, the utilizing of technology to advance learning whether it is reading, writing, or arithmetic. Fortunately for reading instructors, today’s technology is practically tailor-made to support this type of education. We will combine the use of today’s latest technological advances with instructional best practices and literally transform your school’s teaching and learning capabilities. We don’t focus solely on technology tools, however. The services we provide will be customized to fit your objective goals, your school, your teachers, your facility’s leaders, etc. And this is how it all works:

A good reading policy needs to feature effective and appropriate strategies utilizing instructional technology. It is the only way to ensure your educational program’s long-term success. It is completely understandable, and not at all uncommon, for school leaders to be ill-equipped when it comes to the following: establishing benchmarks and goals; IT purchase costs; and what the most efficient tools of technology are as they relate to their educational institution. But our Educate LLC team is at the ready to supply you with a specialized strategy consultation that will enable us to take a closer look at your school’s unique learning environment and culture.
